I started Vari-Move, my online membership for movement variety and meditation, back in October 2019, six months before the whole world went online. And while the membership has understandably grown during this pandemic where everyone is stuck at home and itching to move, I’ve had time to get even more clear on its vision.

I remember planning out the launch of Vari-Move and writing a lot about exactly what it was and why it was important. What purpose was my platform going to serve and who would it help? I wanted to create a place for people who didn’t have time for the gym, who couldn’t afford the gym, or didn’t like group fitness for whatever reason. I wanted to educate people that you don’t have to kill yourself at the gym for hours a day to get the benefits of exercise. I was going through those first scribblings of ideas the other day and happened upon a sentence that read : ” I want to create an environment where people don’t workout for aesthetics.” This became one of the main missions of Vari-Move and the one that I’m most proud of.

I don’t believe that working out should be about numbers on a scale or making our bodies fit a prescribed shape. That’s why you’ll NEVER hear me or any other Vari-Move instructor say things like “this will tone your abs” or “let’s get ready for swimsuit season.” I will never use language that perpetuates diet culture. I will never spread the message, no matter how subtle, that some bodies are more valuable than others. There’s already way too much of that on the planet, especially in the so called “wellness” world. I want us to move our bodies because it’s in our DNA to move. I believe that moving can be gratifying and joyful and even sacred. Moving can bring us closer to ourselves and our innate power. I’m committed to sharing my knowledge of what our bodies (and brains) can do, how it functions and how movement can empower us. Here are the main ways Vari-Move could serve you.

1. Learn to feel at home in your body.

2. Practice gratitude for your bodies abilities and for being alive.

3. Push yourself to step outside your comfort zone.

4. Align your mind with your body.

5. Find joy in moving.

If those reasons sound good to you, then you should join Vari-Move- you might just fall in love with exercise if you hated it before. And if you’re sick of being the person (I once was too) who uses exercise to punish yourself or “fix” yourself, I hope you’ll take a chance on a new perspective.

Happy Moving!
